~Study Spelling List words in the planner for Friday's test. You will be notified if there will not be a test on Friday.

~"READ with me"Folder: These are filled individually for each student. Not all students have the same number of books, level of books, or types of books. Only some students have decodable readers in the left pocket. These are to be practiced by reading over and over again to improve reading fluency. Everyone has leveled books in the right pocket at their independent reading level. There have been response suggestions placed in your child's folder pocket, suggestions on the back of their folder, as well as response activities at the end of the book they are reading. Use them to help prepare your child for Saint Anne School reading benchmark assessments.

The students will begin to bring these home after beginning of the year

WE WILL NOT ALWAYS BEGIN A NEW STORY IN OUR READER ON THE SAME DAY OF THE WEEK. YOUR CHILD WILL PUT "WORDS TO KNOW" ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THEIR PLANNER # 7-12, WHEN WE BEGIN A NEW STORY. YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE PRACTICING READING THOSE WORDS AND KNOW THEIR MEANING OVER A MINIMUM PERIOD OF 5 SCHOOL DAYS, SOMETIMES EVEN LONGER. THAT MIGHT OVERLAP A TWO WEEK SPAN IN THE PLANNER. PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S PLANNER NIGHTLY. I APPRECIATE YOUR INITIALS NIGHTLY SOMEWHERE ON THE LEFT WHERE THE DATE AND DAY OF THE WEEK IS. CHECKING THAT YOUR CHILD HAS COMPLETED THEIR HOMEWORK AND HAS COMPLETED IT CORRECTLY HELPS THEM TO HAVE A BETTER NEXT DAY AT SCHOOL.

Hello, my name is Terri Laforest. I am the first grade teacher at Saint Anne School. I have taught for forty-three years. After graduating from Longwood University in Virginia(site of 2016 Vice-Presidential Debate), I remained in Virginia for seven years teaching grades six and seven in a public school. I have been teaching at Saint Anne School for 36 years(every grade with the exception of kindergarten and second). I am married and have two daughters, a son-in-law, and two grandsons. Flower gardening, baking, shopping and spending time with my husband, family, and friends are some of my favorite leisure time activities. Thank you for letting me introduce myself.

First grade is an exciting and challenging time in your child's life. I feel privileged to spend this year with your child. The children and I will spend the first several weeks of first grade getting to know one another and becoming familiar with classroom expectations, routines, and the weekly classroom schedule.

We will have several opportunities to get to know each other better, but always feel free to call, write, or email me at laforestte@stannelancaster.org if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to getting to know you and your child.
