Welcome to Mr. Traphagen's Computer/STEM Lab

About Me
I graduated from Belmont Abbey College in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Therapeutic Recreation. I worked as an admissions counselor for Belmont Abbey before moving to Lancaster. I received my Social Studies teaching certificate from University of Phoenix in 2008. This is my 10th year teaching at St. Anne's. I am married and have two daughters and a Golden Retriever named Pretzel. I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking and woodworking!

My Classes

* All Classes will begin the school year with a unit on internet safety and responsibility
* All classes will be assigned a keyboarding account from Typing.com. Some grades will be assigned practice homework that can be completed via their web account at home.

Kindergarten - We will spend most of the year concentrating on getting familiar with operating both the computer and iPad. We will focus on utilizing our learned computer skills while playing educational computer games. Some of the sites used are found at the bottom of my page. Kindergarten computer class will start in October and we will learn the expectations and procedures of the computer lab as well as learning about what internet safety means. Parents please encourage your child to utilize the mouse while working at home. Although mobile and touch technology is becoming a standard it it still important that children can correctly operate a mouse.

1st Grade - First grade will continue to focus on enhancing the technology skills we learned in Kindergarten. We will continue utilizing iPads and iMacs for educational games, begin learning basic Microsoft Word skills, begin keyboarding using QWERTY Town and continue our computer vocabulary.

2nd Grade - Second Grade will cover new Microsoft Word skills, keyboarding using QWERTY Town, web searching, iPad navigation and fun educational games. Please look for some of the fun things we create in class as they come home.

3rd Grade - This year we will continue learning Microsoft Word, continue keyboarding using our new keyboarding program QWERTY Town, web searching, begin Power Point basics and learn some more fun educational games on both the iMac and iPad.

4th Grade - We will focus heavily on enhancing keyboarding skills as well as learning some additional PowerPoint options and introduce Microsoft Excel.

5th Grade - 5th grade we will focus on improving keyboarding skills and posture using QWERTY Town, learn about useful web 2.0 tools and create a travel brochure using Microsoft Publisher.

6th Grade - Sixth grade will work periodically on keyboard skills using QWERTY Town, begin learning and using Google Docs and the Google Drive, utilize useful web 2.0 tools while creating a Google presentation and create an interactive PowerPoint storybook which they will present to the first graders.

7th Grade - This year the 7th grade will learn iMovie and create video in conjunction with a science unit, create tables using formulas in Microsoft Excel and learn about new web 2.0 tools. We will also periodically work on keyboarding skills using QWERTY TOWN. Grading is primarily based on extensive semester long projects.

8th Grade - The 8th graders will create a career brochure using Microsoft Publisher, a PSA using the iPads and iMovie, learn advanced features of spreadsheets and also periodically practice keyboarding skills using QWERTY Town. Grading is primarily based on extensive semester long projects along with graded keyboarding quizzes. It is expected that each student will be able to keyboard at 25 wpm without looking by the end of the year.

Please note that technology is constantly changing and as such I may add or delete some of the items listed above based on time and curriculum.
